Split and partial payments
Take one bill with more than one payment method, such as part by card and the rest in cash, using Pay part.
Overview
Use Pay part when a customer pays one bill with more than one payment method, for example part by card and the rest in cash. Each part is recorded as its own payment line on the same bill, and Bookit shows the Balance still to pay after each one. If the customer cannot pay everything today, record what they pay with Pay part and see Owe balance for saving the rest to their account.
Split a bill between two payment methods
In this example, Mei Ling's bill is RM 250.00. She pays RM 100.00 by card and the rest in cash.
- Add the items to the cart, choose the customer and tap Continue to go to the Review screen.
- Under Payment method, choose the first method, for example Card.
- Tap Pay part. On a phone, tap the ⋯ button next to Pay full and choose Pay part.
- Enter the amount paid with this method (RM 100.00). The dialog warns "This covers part of the bill — RM 150.00 stays unpaid".
- Tap Add RM 100.00. The card payment appears as a line above the Balance, which now shows RM 150.00.
- Choose the second method. For a card, e-wallet or bank transfer, tap Pay remaining balance RM 150.00 to finish.
- For cash, tap Cash. Enter what the customer handed you in Cash received (RM 200.00), check Changes (RM 50.00) and tap Add RM 150.00.
- When the Balance reads RM 0.00, tap Continue to complete the sale.
The receipt lists each payment method and its amount.
Fix a part payment before you finish
- On the Review screen, tap the name of the payment line you want to change, for example Card.
- Enter the correct amount and tap Update to with the new amount.
- To remove a line completely, tap the bin icon next to its amount. The Balance goes back up by that amount.
How it's calculated
Each part payment is taken off the bill total. What is left is the Balance. For cash, anything handed over above the balance is change, not extra payment.
| Step | Amount | Balance |
|---|---|---|
| Bill total | RM 250.00 | RM 250.00 |
| Pay part by card | RM 100.00 | RM 250.00 − RM 100.00 = RM 150.00 |
| Cash received | RM 200.00 | |
| Cash recorded on the bill | RM 150.00 | RM 150.00 − RM 150.00 = RM 0.00 |
| Changes to give back | RM 200.00 − RM 150.00 = RM 50.00 |
FAQs
Why can't I enter more than the balance in Pay part?
A part payment cannot be larger than what is still unpaid. Bookit shows "Amount cannot exceed the unpaid balance" with the amount. Cash is the exception: enter the full amount handed over and Bookit works out the change.
What if the customer can't pay the rest today?
Record what they pay with Pay part, then tap More options → Owe the rest. The rest is saved as a negative balance on the customer's profile. See Owe balance.
Can I use the same payment method twice?
Yes. Tapping a method that already has a line on the bill opens it again, so you can add another payment with it or change the one already there.
How do I use a customer's credit for part of the bill?
Tap Profile credit. Bookit applies the customer's credit to the bill straight away, using package credit that expires soonest first, then their main credit. Tap Profile credit again to change how much comes from each. Then choose another method for anything left.
Why is there already a payment line I didn't add?
If the appointment had a deposit, the deposit shows as a payment line with a link to the original payment, and is already taken off the Balance. See Deposits.
How do split payments show in reports?
Each payment method is recorded with its own amount, so your payment reports show the card and cash parts separately.
