Services
Add, find and edit the services customers can book, choose who performs them, and control what shows on your booking site.
Overview
Your services are everything customers can book with you, from haircuts to consultations to treatments. Use this page to add new services, update existing ones, choose which team members can perform each one, and control what customers see on your booking site. You'll find them under Catalogues → Services.
Add a service
- Go to Catalogues → Services.
- Click Create new service.
- Fill in the service details.
- Click Save.
To add a copy of a service that already exists, see "Copy, export or upload services in bulk" below.
Find and edit a service
- Go to Catalogues → Services.
- Type the service name or details into the search box.
- To narrow the list, click Show filters and filter by status, tags, reference number, name or description.
- Click the service name to open its Service details.
- Make your changes, then click Save or Update.
Choose which team members can perform a service
Use this when only some team members are trained for a service. For example, only Alice and Bob can do a Deep tissue massage.
- Go to Catalogues → Services and click the service, for example Deep tissue massage.
- In Service details, scroll down to the field for choosing team members.
- Select each team member who can perform the service, for example Alice and Bob. You can pick more than one.
- Click Save or Update.
- Open your booking site as a customer and try to book the service to check that only the team members you chose appear.
What customers see on your booking site after you save:
- Only the team members you selected appear in the team member picker, for example Alice and Bob.
- If more than one team member is selected, customers also get an option to book with any of them. Bookit then assigns the appointment to one of the selected team members who is free at that time, as soon as the customer confirms. You don't need to assign it yourself.
- Time slots only appear when at least one selected team member is free. If Alice and Bob are both busy at 2pm on Tuesday, a Deep tissue massage at 2pm Tuesday won't be offered, even if other team members are free. Breaks and days off count as busy.
Let any team member perform a service again
- Open the service's Service details.
- In the team member field, remove all the names.
- Click Save or Update.
All team members in your service team can now perform the service, and customers will see more available times.
Hide a service from your booking site
- Open the service's Service details.
- Turn off Visible online, then save.
Customers won't see the service on your booking site, but you can still book it for them from your dashboard.
Copy, export or upload services in bulk
All of these are in the three-dot menu on the services list.
- Copy a service: tick the checkbox next to one service, open the three-dot menu and choose Duplicate. The copy has the same settings.
- Export services: tick the services you want and choose Download selected, or choose Download all to export your whole catalogue.
- Add many services at once: choose Bulk upload and import them from a spreadsheet.
FAQs
Can I limit a service to just one team member?
Yes. Select only that team member. Customers can then only book with them, so available times depend on that one person's free slots.
What happens to existing appointments if I change who can perform a service?
Nothing. Existing appointments stay with the team member they were booked with. Only new appointments follow the updated choice.
Why can't customers book a Deep tissue massage at 2pm on Tuesday?
If the service is limited to Alice and Bob and both are already booked or on a break at that time, the slot is hidden on purpose so customers can't book a service nobody can perform. Add another qualified team member or free up time for Alice or Bob.
I restricted a service but customers still see the wrong team members. Why?
First check that you saved your changes. Then make sure each selected team member is part of the service team for the branch: go to Team, open the team member, go to branches and check that service team is turned on.
Can I make a service bookable only by certain customers, such as VIPs?
Not with team member restrictions, which control who performs the service, not who can book it. You can turn off Visible online to hide the service from your booking site and book it for those customers yourself.
What does the number of slots setting mean?
It controls how many appointment slots the service takes up in your schedule. Most services use 1 slot, but longer treatments might need more.
How do I group services with tags?
Add tags to related services, then use the tags filter under Show filters to find them. You can group by type, department or any system that suits your business.
