Recommended hardware
Find out which tablets, receipt printers, cash drawers, label printers and scanners work with Bookit, and what you can skip.
Overview
Bookit runs on the phone, tablet or laptop you already own, in a web browser or in the Bookit iPhone and Android apps. You only need extra hardware for things like printed receipts, a cash drawer, product labels or scanning. To see the models we recommend, open Tools → Recommended hardware in Bookit, or tap View on the banner in settings → Devices. Both open our hardware list on launchit.my.

Choose a setup that fits your shop
- Just starting out: use the phone or laptop you already have. You can add a printer later if you want printed receipts.
- Mobile or home-based: a phone with a small 58mm Bluetooth receipt printer.
- Fixed shop or salon: a tablet on a stand, an 80mm receipt printer and a cash drawer. Add a scanner if you sell many products, or a label printer to tag them.
Start small and add hardware when you feel the need. You do not need a dedicated POS machine.
Connect your hardware
Once you have it, pair printers and scanners in settings → Devices. The Devices screen pairs Bluetooth devices on every platform, and USB devices in a web browser on a computer.

FAQs
Do I have to buy the models on your list?
No. The list is a recommendation. Most thermal receipt printers that support ESC/POS work with Bookit. If you are unsure about a model, send support the model name before you buy.
Do I need a tablet?
No. Bookit works on any iPhone, Android phone or laptop. Buy a tablet only if you want a bigger screen that stays at the counter.
Will the cash drawer open without a receipt printer?
No. The drawer plugs into the receipt printer, and Bookit opens it through a Bluetooth printer. It opens when you tap a payment method that has Open cash drawer when tapped turned on, which is on for Cash by default. You change this in settings → Checkout → Payment methods.
Can a USB printer open the cash drawer?
Not at the moment. Use a Bluetooth receipt printer if you want Bookit to open the drawer.
My old tablet or laptop, will it still work?
Usually yes, as long as it runs an up-to-date Chrome, Edge or Safari, or the Bookit app. To connect printers from a browser, use Chrome, Edge or Opera.
Do I need a separate payment terminal?
Only if you want card payments to go straight from Bookit to a card terminal. Cash, bank transfer and e-wallet payments need no extra hardware.
What paper does a receipt printer take?
Standard 58mm or 80mm thermal paper rolls. You do not need branded rolls.
