Checkout
Checkout basics
Take payment for services and products at the counter, split a bill, give change and send the receipt.
Overview
Use checkout when a customer is ready to pay for services or products at your counter. You add what they bought, pick who served them, take the payment and Bookit records the sale and creates the receipt. Open Checkout from the main menu to start a new sale.
Take a payment
- Tap the customer selector at the top right and choose the customer.
- Tap Add item, then tap each service or product the customer is buying to add it to the cart.
- For each item, tag the team member who served the customer so their commission is recorded.
- Check the bill summary: subtotal, any discount, Tax and the final total.
- Tap Continue.
- Under Payment method, choose how the customer is paying, such as cash, card, bank transfer, Profile balance or another method.
- Tap Pay full {{amount}}. For Aisyah's facial this shows as Pay full RM 180.00.
The receipt is created and printed automatically, and the sale is recorded.
To change the tax rate, add service charges or turn on rounding, see Charges. To set up which payment methods appear, see Payment methods.
Give change for cash
- Under Payment method, choose cash.
- Enter the amount the customer handed you in Cash tendered.
- Give back the amount shown under Changes.
- Tap Pay full {{amount}} to finish the sale.
Split a payment or let a customer pay the rest later
Use this when the customer pays with more than one method, or can only pay part of the bill today.
- After tapping Continue, choose the first Payment method.
- Tap Pay part and enter the amount they are paying with this method.
- Choose another Payment method and pay the remaining balance, or tap More options and choose Owe the rest to save the unpaid balance to the customer's account.
Send the receipt
- On the receipt, choose the paper format from the dropdown: A4, A5, 55mm or 80mm.
- Tap WhatsApp to send the receipt to the customer, or Copy to paste it somewhere else.
- Edit the message before sending if you want to add your own wording, formatting or emojis.
To change what appears on the receipt, see Receipts.
Save a sale for later
If the customer is not ready to pay yet, tap Save for later. The cart is stored with all its items so you can come back to it and finish the payment later.
How it's calculated
The bill summary starts from the subtotal of the items in the cart, takes off any discount, adds tax and any service charges you have set up, and shows the final total. If rounding is turned on in Charges, the total is rounded according to that setting.
Example: Aisyah has a facial and the final total is RM 180.00.
- Paying in full by cash: she hands you RM 200.00. You enter RM 200.00 in Cash tendered, and Changes shows RM 20.00 to give back.
- Splitting the bill: she pays RM 100.00 by card with Pay part. RM 180.00 − RM 100.00 leaves RM 80.00. She can pay that RM 80.00 by cash now, or you choose More options → Owe the rest and RM 80.00 is saved to her account to settle on a later visit.
FAQs
Why can't I tap Pay full or Pay part?
The payment buttons stay disabled until there are items in the cart and you have chosen a Payment method. If you see Cart is empty, add at least one item first.
Why can't I choose Owe the rest?
You need a customer selected on the sale. Pick the customer with the selector at the top right, then try again.
What does "No submitted payment found" mean?
The payment did not go through. Tap Start over to go back to the main checkout screen and take the payment again.
Can a customer pay with more than one method?
Yes. Use Pay part for the first method, then choose a different Payment method for the rest.
How do I give a discount or change the tax on a sale?
Tap the discount or Tax line in the bill summary and adjust it. You can also apply a discount to an individual item in the cart.
How do I use a customer's credit?
Choose Profile balance as the Payment method. If the customer has credit on their profile, Bookit applies their balance during checkout.
Why does it matter which team member I tag on each item?
Tagging the team member who served each item is how their commission is tracked, so your commission reports stay accurate.
Can I show service photos on the checkout screen?
Yes. You can switch the checkout screen between text-only buttons and buttons with images. See Checkout display.
