If you've been running a salon, clinic, or any service business in Malaysia for more than a year, you already know the daily reality: a customer no-shows, a staff member quits without notice, LHDN sends a new e-invoice notice, and you still have to close the till at 10pm.
We built bookit because we've sat next to operators dealing with exactly that. This blog is where we'll share what we learn working alongside them — the practical, unglamorous stuff that makes a small business profitable.
What you can expect here
We're aiming for one to two articles a week. Most of them will fall into one of four buckets:
- Operating playbooks — how to cut no-shows, build a commission structure that doesn't cause fights, run a credit/package system that customers actually use.
- Compliance, plain-English — SST, e-invoice (LHDN), tourism tax, employee contributions. We translate the regulations into "what you actually have to do this month."
- Product updates — what's new in bookit, why we built it, and how to make the most of it.
- Stories from the field — interviews with merchants who've figured out things the hard way.
We're not going to write listicles or AI slop. Every post here is grounded in something a real merchant asked us, or something we wish someone had told us when we started.
Why we're doing this
Honestly? Two reasons.
The first is selfish: search engines reward businesses that publish useful content on their own domain. We want more people to find bookit when they search for "POS for salon Malaysia" or "how to reduce no-shows" — and the best way to do that is to actually write the answer, well, on our own site.
The second is bigger: there's almost no good, locally relevant content for South East Asian service businesses. Everything is either US/UK-flavoured or buried in WhatsApp groups. We're going to try and fix that, one post at a time.
If you want to contribute
If you run a service business and want to share what you've figured out — a hiring playbook, a pricing experiment, a CRM workflow that doubled your repeat rate — we'd love to publish it. Reply to any of our emails or message us on Instagram.
